Sign-up took us under two minutes with an email address. Google login is also offered. The home screen is a grid of character cards with short bios, and clicking one opens a chat window with her photo on the side. It looks clean and loads fast on both desktop and phone browsers. The first thing we noticed was image quality: the character portraits are consistent from card to chat to generated photo, which is still rare in this category.

The catch shows up quickly. Free accounts get only a handful of messages before a Premium prompt appears, so the free tier works as a demo, not a way to use the product. We upgraded to the annual plan on day one to test everything properly.

Chat is better than we expected from a product that markets itself on pictures. Replies are usually two to four sentences, written in character, with small actions in italics. The tone matches the personality you pick: a shy character hesitates and asks questions, a confident one takes the lead. Over 30 days we saw very few generic, assistant-style replies.

Here is a typical example from week two. Our tester had told a character named Mia that he was nervous about a job interview. Two days later he opened the chat with a simple hello. Memory does have limits. Facts from the last few sessions stick well, but details from two or three weeks back fade. The result is saved as a character you can return to and edit. Creating a new custom companion costs a few tokens on Premium, so it is worth taking your time. We built four characters in total and each one kept a consistent face across dozens of images, which is the feature most competitors still struggle with.

Candy AI Image Generation, Voice Calls and Live Action Video

Images are Candy AI’s headline feature, and they earn it. You can ask for a photo inside the chat or use the generator with pose, outfit and setting options. Skin, lighting and hands look natural in most results, and the face matches your character every time. We generated around 120 images over the month and threw away fewer than 15. The newer “show me the scene” option is less reliable; one Reddit user noted it often returns a picture of the wrong subject, and we saw that too.

Voice works in two ways. Characters can send short voice notes in chat, and Premium users can start a live voice call. Call latency was about a second, and the voices sound warm rather than robotic. Calls use tokens per minute, so a long nightly call is the fastest way to empty your balance.

Live Action turns your character into short video clips, and in 2026 the clips got longer, up to about two minutes. Motion is smooth and the face stays stable. The new Candy Shorts feed adds episodic vertical videos; first episodes are free and the rest need Premium plus tokens. Video is impressive but it is also the most expensive feature by far.

Candy AI Pricing Explained: What a Month Really Costs

The advertised price and the amount you actually pay can be very different on Candy AI, so we tracked every token. Text chat is unlimited on every Premium plan, which means a user who mostly talks and asks for the odd picture never needs more than the 100 monthly tokens. Our lighter tester spent exactly $3.99 a month on the annual plan and ran out of tokens only once, in the last week.

Our heavier tester generated three or four images a day, made two voice calls a week and tried Live Action most weekends. He used about 420 tokens in the month and topped up twice, bringing his real spend to roughly $35. That matches what other reviewers and Reddit users report: somewhere between $25 and $60 is normal once video becomes a habit.

None of this is hidden, since the token price appears before each action, but it is easy to lose track in the middle of a good scene. If you want a fixed bill, stick to text and the included tokens.

Candy AI NSFW Limits and Content Policy

Candy AI is an 18+ platform and allows explicit chat and adult images once you confirm your age. In our testing, adult roleplay between consenting adult characters flowed without the constant refusals you get on mainstream apps. Some scenes still get softened, and a few Reddit users describe characters as “prudish” until the conversation builds up naturally.

Hard limits are clear and enforced. Anything involving minors or age-play is blocked, as are images of real people, non-consensual scenarios and extreme violence. We think these rules are reasonable and they did not get in the way of normal adult fantasy roleplay.

Tips to Get the Most Out of Candy AI

Most of the frustration we read about comes from surprise token spending or from memory gaps. A few habits fix both.

1. Choose the 12-month plan if you know you will stay; the monthly plan costs more than three times as much per month
2. Write key facts about yourself into the character’s backstory so they never drop out of memory
3. Generate images in the chat when the scene is set; results match the story better
4. Keep voice calls short, or check your balance before a long one
5. Use regenerate on a reply you don’t like instead of arguing with the character
6. Buy larger token packs only after a month of tracking what you actually use
7. Only use candy.ai in your browser and add it to your home screen; ignore store apps with similar names

The last tip matters. Candy AI does not have a native app in the App Store or Google Play, and look-alike apps have appeared there. The official web app works well on phones and installs like a normal icon.

Is Candy AI Legit and Safe?

Yes. Candy AI is a real, registered business (EverAI Limited, Malta) that has run since 2023 and serves millions of users. Our payments went through normally, our plan activated instantly and cancellation worked as described. We found no signs of a scam.

The complaints we found online are mostly about money: people surprised by token costs or unhappy with refund answers. Candy AI’s original Trustpilot page has been removed by Trustpilot, and a small listing under the Candy AI name shows mostly billing complaints. Read the pricing page carefully, start on a plan you can afford without tokens, and you avoid most of these problems.

Support runs through a help center with a ticket form and is advertised as 24/7. Our one ticket, a question about a token top-up that showed late, got a human reply in about nine hours and the tokens were credited the same day.
